Advanced Additive Technology
Modern MOEVE formulations combine premium base oils with advanced additive systems engineered to protect engines, cut emissions and extend service life across passenger cars and demanding commercial fleets.
Three checks make technical data useful.
Viscosity is a filter, not a complete selection. The product record, application requirements and document version belong together.
- 01
Decode the viscosity
Read cold-start and operating-temperature behaviour as two parts of one grade.
- 02
Match the specification
Do not treat similar names as identical approvals or performance claims.
- 03
Use the current document
Check the exact product record and the released TDS or SDS before a decision.
What "5W-40" actually means
Two numbers, two different tests. The first describes the oil while the engine is still cold, the second describes it once the engine is hot. Neither of them means "thicker is better".
The winter number
Measured cold: how readily the oil still lets the starter turn the engine and how quickly the pump moves it. A lower W number means the oil stays fluid further below zero, so oil pressure reaches the bearings sooner on a winter start.
The operating number
Measured hot: the viscosity class at 100 °C, where the engine actually spends its life. It follows the clearances and oil-pressure design of the engine, not the climate it runs in.
Low-SAPS, mid-SAPS, and why ash decides
SAPS stands for sulphated ash, phosphorus and sulphur — three things an additive package needs in order to protect an engine, and three things the exhaust aftertreatment system tolerates badly. Ash does not burn. It leaves the combustion chamber with the exhaust and settles inside the diesel or petrol particulate filter, where a regeneration cycle cannot remove it. Enough of it, and the filter has to be cleaned or replaced.
That is why ACEA C-class oils cap ash, phosphorus and sulphur, and why one modest-looking percentage decides whether an oil belongs in a filter-equipped vehicle at all. Older engines without a particulate filter run higher-ash formulations deliberately: the extra detergent and anti-wear chemistry has nowhere harmful to end up.
- Sulphated ash
- Metallic detergent residue — the fraction that physically fills a particulate filter.
- Phosphorus
- Comes with the anti-wear chemistry. It degrades the catalyst it passes through.
- Sulphur
- Lowers catalyst efficiency and adds to particulate formation.
