Safe engine-oil choice

How to choose the right engine oil without guessing

A safe engine-oil checklist: manual, SAE viscosity, ACEA or API category, OEM requirement, emissions system and current documents.

Short answer

How to choose the right engine oil without guessing

Start with the exact requirement in the vehicle or equipment manual. SAE viscosity, the ACEA or API category and any OEM requirement must agree; a grade such as 5W-30 or 5W-40 alone does not confirm fitment.

01

Copy the complete requirement from the manual

Record the engine, fuel, model year or equipment variant and service interval before comparing products. Note any DPF, GPF or other after-treatment system mentioned by the manufacturer.

Treat viscosity, performance category and OEM wording as one set of conditions. Matching only one item is not enough to establish that an oil is suitable.

  • the permitted SAE grade or grades;
  • the exact ACEA or API category;
  • the OEM specification or approval wording;
  • the service interval and emissions-system requirements.
02

Compare the exact product record and documents

Use the full MOEVE product name and product record, not a similar family name. Check the current TDS for the stated viscosity and performance wording, and distinguish a formal OEM approval from a manufacturer performance claim.

The SDS serves a different purpose: it covers safe handling and hazards. Request the current document for the exact product and market when it is needed.

03

Stop and ask when the evidence is incomplete

If the manual is unclear, the engine code is unknown or the documents do not use the same wording, do not turn a close match into a recommendation. Send the exact vehicle or equipment details and the manual requirement for a documented check.

Price, packaging, stock and delivery are commercial facts confirmed for each enquiry; they do not prove technical suitability.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Is the same viscosity enough to choose an engine oil?

No. The SAE grade must be checked together with ACEA or API, any OEM requirement, the service interval and the emissions system.

What details are needed for a useful check?

Provide the vehicle or equipment model, year, engine code where available, fuel, emissions hardware, service interval and the exact wording from the manual.

Does a product page confirm fitment for my vehicle?

Not by itself. It provides product evidence to compare with the manual; individual fitment requires an official or licensed source for the exact vehicle.

Limitations

Limitations

  • This guide does not identify a product from a vehicle name or viscosity alone.
  • It does not confirm price, stock, packaging, delivery or sales rights outside the documented Czech market.
